Healthy Flapjack Recipe

Delicious oaty squares that can be enjoyed as a snack, healthier dessert or even a handy on-the-go breakfast. This healthy flapjack recipe is so easy to make and super convenient to have in the fridge for when you need a quick pick-me-up. What are flapjacks? In the UK - Flapjacks are a type of sweet tray-baked oat bar. They are typically made from rolled oats, butter, brown sugar, and golden syrup. Optional ingredients can include dried fruits, nuts, and chocolate. They are chewy and slightly crispy and are usually cut into squares or rectangles. Although flapjacks are usually baked, you can make a no-bake version that's just as tasty and saves a lot of time. I made these flapjacks with [...]

Healthier Miso Brownies

These healthier miso brownies are fudgy, yet made with healthier ingredients like oats, ground almonds, flaxseed and cocoa powder. I went a step further to make them extra decadent by topping them with a simple tahini miso 'salted caramel' and dark chocolate layer. The result is something so deliciously irresistible!  Brownies have always been one of my favourite desserts and they're definitely my go to at restaurants. If I'm in the mood for a sweet treat and there's brownies on the menu, I can safely say that's what I'll be ordering regardless of what else is on there.  Even though I have a major sweet tooth and typically crave something sweet after my meals, I'm also not someone who likes [...]

These berry chocolate bliss balls are so easy to put together and make a great snack on busy days or even a healthier dessert. A great source of healthy fats, protein and packed with antioxidants. I love having snacks like these in my fridge or freezer for when I'm feeling peckish or want to grab something nutritious to take with me on the go. They make eating healthy so much easier, more enjoyable and less of a hassle.  What's great about snacks like these berry chocolate bliss balls is that you only need a few basic ingredients to make them and very little time. I whipped these up in just 15 minutes. You literally just need to mix everything in [...]

Dark Chocolate Biscuit Bark

This dark chocolate biscuit bark combines 2 of my favourite treats - crunchy biscuits and dark chocolate. It creates the most satisfying contract of tastes and textures.  From date bark, to strawberry bark, chocolate barks in general seem to be very popular on social media at the moment. I can see the appeal. A chocolate slab topped with things like fruit, nuts and nut butters - it's such a simple concept that's easy to put together and tastes amazing. They can easily be made healthy with the right selection of ingredients. Chocolate bark is also so much fun - you can create an endless number of variations depending on your mood! What is a dark chocolate biscuit bark? Biscuit bark [...]

Homemade Raspberry Chocolate Magnums (Healthier)

These homemade raspberry chocolate magnums are the best magnum flavour I’ve tried so far! They're so easy to make using better-for-you-ingredients and easily adjustable to likes and preferences. One to try this summer!  Everyone loves a magnum on a hot day (or any day really!) and I'm no exception. However, as much as I enjoy a magnum at the time of eating one, I'm always left feeling heavy, sluggish and weighed down afterwards. I'm a bit funny when it comes to dairy - I can eat some products and feel completely fine afterwards, but dairy ice cream for some reason just doesn't sit well in my stomach. I think it's the mixture of the dairy, high fat content and high [...]

Cottage Cheese Pudding (High Protein)

This creamy cottage cheese pudding is as healthy as it is delicious! Packed with 40g protein, it makes a great prepare-ahead-of-time breakfast, healthier dessert or even a post-workout snack.  Cottage cheese is definitely having a moment on social media right now and for good reason. It's such a versatile ingredient that's packed with protein and fairly low in calories and fat (especially the lower fat or fat-free varieties). It's also quite mild in flavour, so it can easily be incorporated into many different recipes.  I never really thought of cottage cheese as a main ingredient in a sweet recipe until I saw the viral TikTok trend of using it to make cookie dough. Although I haven't tried the cookie dough [...]

No-Bake Pistachio Chocolate Cookies (Healthy/Vegan/GF)

These no-bake pistachio chocolate cookies are the perfect summer treat when you're craving something sweet and chocolatey, but don't feel like turning on the oven. They're made with better-for-you ingredients and also happen to be vegan and gluten-free! I've always tended to lean towards making no-bake desserts over baked ones, for many reasons. Even more so during summer when the last thing I want to do is turn on the oven and make the house even warmer!  For all my international readers, the last few summers in the UK have been a little unbearable. We may not experience the kind of scorching hot weather you get in other countries, but unlike other countries, we don't have AC built into our [...]

No-Bake Peanut Butter Chocolate Pinwheels (Vegan & Gluten-free)

These no-bake peanut butter chocolate pinwheels make the perfect chilled after dinner-treat during the warmer months. They don’t require baking, easy to make and are healthier than your average chocolate-based treat! I’ve always thought that chocolate and nut butter make the most amazing flavour combination for healthier desserts. Especially when I’m thinking of no-bake desserts that require very few ingredients and a straight forward method. This no-bake peanut butter chocolate pinwheels recipe has been on my blog since 2018, and I must admit that up until recently I had completely forgotten about it! This tends to be the case when I’m busy thinking up new recipe ideas that I forget to appreciate old gems like this one. I’ve decided to [...]

Easy Hummus Recipe (Authentic Middle Eastern)

Hummus is something that I eat every single day without fail! I eat it on the side of main meals with salads and cooked vegetables, and it's also one of my go-to snacks. I like to have some peeled chopped carrots in the fridge so when I'm feeling peckish, all I have to do is open the fridge, take out the hummus and carrots and devour! I also like to have it with rice cakes when I run out of carrot sticks and I'm too lazy to peel more!

Chocolate Protein Chia Pudding

This chocolate protein chia pudding is the perfect prepare-ahead-of-time breakfast on busy mornings. A fuss-free breakfast that's healthy, balanced and tastes like a dessert! If you've been following me for a while, you'll know I'm a big chocaholic. Most of my dessert and snack recipes feature chocolate. I'm not sure when the obsession started, because growing up in Iraq, chocolate was very rarely eaten in my household, or in general. What I remember used to be referred to as 'chocolate bars' were cheap chocolate dipped biscuit wafers. When I say cheap, I mean the chocolate was so thin, you could actually see the wafer pattern underneath. There was barely any chocolate on them!  Maybe that's why I'm so obsessed with [...]
