This vegan & gluten-free chocolate hazelnut granola makes a great delicious and crunchy breakfast that you can make ahead of time. I love making a big batch to enjoy throughout the week as a speedy breakfast or a scrumptious snack.
Why I love making this vegan & gluten-free chocolate hazelnut granola:
I like to make a big batch of granola every now and then to have in my cupboard whenever I need a speedy breakfast. Pour some granola into a bowl, pour in some milk, add some berries and you have a delicious healthy breakfast.
Who doesn’t want to eat chocolate for breakfast? I know I couldn’t say no. Well, I wouldn’t choose to eat it every day, but it’s definitely a nice change every now and then.
This vegan & gluten-free chocolate hazelnut granola would also make a really nice snack for when you’re craving something chocolaty, but slightly better for you and more filling than a square or two of chocolate.
It’s so easy to buy ready made granola and there are so many different brands and varieties to choose from, but I still prefer to make my own at home. That way I can control the way it tastes and how sweet it is. For example where would you be able to buy tahini date granola? Plus it’s so easy to make and so much cheaper to make it yourself. And if you’re avoiding vegan and gluten it’s not always easy to find a granola that caters for your dietary needs.
I added some chocolate chips to the mix, but if you feel that was a step too far, feel free to leave them out. And if you don’t like hazelnut or can’t eat nuts, go ahead and use some seed butter and seeds as a replacement for the nuts.
This vegan & gluten-free chocolate hazelnut granola goes so well with hazelnut milk! Go ahead and give it a try. You know you want to 😉
What you need to make this vegan & gluten-free chocolate hazelnut granola:
Oats – I’m using rolled porridge oats, but other types of oats like jumbo oats will also work. Packed with fibre – oats make a great option for breakfast. Especially when paired with a source of protein and fat like yoghurt, nut butters, nuts/seeds, etc.
Cocoa powder – to add a rich chocolate flavour as well as lots of antioxidants!
Hazelnut butter – I’m using hazelnut butter instead of oil/butter to make it a healthier option for breakfast/snack. Packed with healthy fats and add a lovely hazelnut flavour that goes so well with chocolate.
Maple syrup – To sweeten as well as help everything hold together and crisp up in the oven. You can use other liquid sweeteners like honey, rice syrup, agave, etc.
Salt – to help enhance all the flavours.
Hazelnuts – for extra hazelnut flavour + healthy fats, protein and fibre.
Dark chocolate chips – this is completely optional to add more chocolatey goodness. You can omit for a healthier, lower calorie and lower sugar version.
Best ways to enjoy your vegan & gluten-free chocolate hazelnut granola:
With yoghurt – This is my favourite way to enjoy granola. Pick a high protein yoghurt like Greek style or thick kefir yoghurt for a high protein breakfast and some added probiotic goodness. I sometimes also add protein powder to my yoghurt first to make the meal more filling, balanced and satisfying.
Smoothie bowls – Add granola as a topping to your smoothie bowl. Smoothie bowls can lack texture, so adding some crunchy granola helps make it so much more satisfying and enjoyable, plus it adds an extra element of flavour.
With milk – One of the simplest and most common ways to enjoy granola. Pour a bowl of your favourite milk and top it with a generous serving of granola. This creates a simple and satisfying breakfast or snack. You can use any milk (dairy or dairy-free). My favourite milk to use is hazelnut milk to enhance the hazelnut taste!
As an ice cream topping – I love adding some crunch to my ice cream – granola is the best way to add crunch, texture and extra flavour!
As a topping for baked goods – Use granola as a topping for muffins, pancakes or waffles. It adds texture and a nutty flavour to baked goods.
As a topping for Desserts – Sprinkle on top of puddings, chocolate mousse or cheesecakes. You can also use it as a topping for fruit crisps or cobblers.

Homemade granola is one of my favorite recipes ever! I love recreating a chocolate granola flavor because it tastes so rich and indulgent whilst including healthy ingredients since I always only use wholesome food as my main components in a recipe. I have to make this granola someday because I never included hazelnut butter or hazelnuts in my granola creations!
Where can one find hazelnut butter?
I get mine from Bulk.com 🙂

Nádia, If I use honey instead of make syrup, do you recommended reduce de amount? Thank you!

😀 can’t beat crunchy homemade granola! Glad you liked it 🙂
This granola looks delicious! So indulgent but healthy at the same time. I think it’s great to get a protein kick through a big helping of nuts – and hazelnuts are a really tasty choice. Chocolate granola is definitely a really comforting breakfast in the winter months – and you can even use it to make your own granola bars of flapjacks.
Love the idea of making granola bars with it 😀 So glad you like it! I usually serve it with Greek style yoghurt, protein powder and nut butter for more protein.
This was perfect!!! I’ve been looking for a healthier chocolate granola recipe for a while. Saved to make again and again..
