If you love the viral stuffed dates but crave something a little different, it’s time to meet your new favourite treat – chocolate figs! Stuffed with creamy nut butter and a crunchy walnut, then dipped in rich 70% dark chocolate, these dried figs hit every craving for chewy, crunchy, and creamy. They are the ultimate nutrient-dense, grab-and-go bite to keep stashed in your fridge!

Why these chocolate figs are my new favourite snack:
We’ve all seen them. Over the last few years, they took the internet by storm, dominating our social media feeds and transforming our afternoon snacking routines: the ubiquitous stuffed date. Snickers-style dates are one of my favourite snacks, but I do like a slight change from time to time. So if you’re looking for something new, you’re in the right place!
It’s time to shine a light on the undisputed, underrated champion of the dried fruit world: the dried fig. By slicing a dried fig, stuffing it with creamy nut butter and a crisp walnut, and plunging the whole thing into 70% dark chocolate, you create a treat that is complex, satisfying, and completely addictive. Here is why you need to make the switch to stuffed figs.

Elevate your snack game with homemade chocolate figs:
We all know the feeling. It’s 3:00 PM, your focus is waning, and your sweet tooth is practically shouting at you. Or maybe it’s right after dinner, and you need just a little something sweet to close out the day. You could reach for a standard candy bar, but what if you could have something that tastes like a gourmet truffle, satisfies your cravings instantly, and actually fuels your body?
I won’t even compare figs with my beloved dates, because in my eyes nothing will beat dates – they are naturally intensely sweet with a wonderful, sticky, caramel-like consistency. But figs bring something entirely different to the table.
Dried figs have an earthier, more nuanced sweetness that doesn’t overwhelm the palate. What truly sets them apart, however, is their texture. The tiny seeds naturally found inside a fig provide a delightful, subtle crunch that pairs perfectly with smooth nut butter and a hard chocolate shell. If you find dates just a little too sweet, figs offer a sophisticated, slightly more grown-up flavour profile that makes for a phenomenal base for your favourite fillings.

The anatomy of the perfect bite:
When it comes to building a top-tier snack, it is all about hitting every sensory note: sweet, salty, crunchy, chewy, and creamy. These chocolate figs deliver on absolutely all fronts.
First, your teeth break through the crisp, snappy shell of the 70% dark chocolate. The slight, rich bitterness of the dark cocoa beautifully cuts through the natural, honeyed sweetness of the fruit. Next, you hit the soft, earthy chew of the dried fig, followed immediately by a velvety wave of rich nut butter. Finally, nestled right in the centre, a hearty walnut half provides a deeply satisfying, savoury crunch. It is a multi-textural masterpiece that feels like eating an artisanal truffle from a high-end chocolatier, right out of your own fridge.

Why these chocolate figs are a nutritional powerhouse:
Beyond being ridiculously tasty, this snack is a powerhouse of functional nutrition. Every single layer brings something beneficial to your body:
- Dried Figs: These are an incredible source of dietary fibre, which promotes digestive health and keeps you feeling fuller for longer. They also boast a solid dose of essential minerals like calcium, magnesium, and potassium.
- Walnuts: The walnut centre isn’t just there for the crunch. Walnuts are famous for their exceptionally high concentration of plant-based Omega-3 fatty acids, which are fantastic for supporting brain health and reducing inflammation.
- Nut Butter: Whether you choose almond, cashew, or peanut butter, this creamy layer provides a hit of satiating plant protein and healthy fats. This helps to stabilise your blood sugar alongside the fruit, preventing that dreaded post-snack energy crash.
- 70% Dark Chocolate: By opting for a high-percentage dark chocolate, you are bathing your snack in a wealth of antioxidants (specifically flavonoids) while keeping the overall added sugar content relatively low compared to milk chocolate alternatives.

The ultimate grab-and-go convenience:
In our busy lives, a snack is only as good as its convenience factor. The beauty of these chocolate figs lies in their incredible storability.
You can whip up a large batch on a Sunday afternoon in mere minutes and keep them stored in an airtight container in the fridge or freezer for weeks. They are the ultimate grab-and-go solution. Need a quick hit of energy before a morning workout? Grab a stuffed fig. Fighting off the 3:00 PM office slump and need to stay focused? Grab a chocolate fig. Craving something rich and sweet after dinner but don’t want to bake an entire cake? You guessed it.
Because they are so incredibly nutrient-dense and satisfying, just one or two will completely curb your craving without leaving you feeling sluggish or heavy.
