Tahini Chocolate Balls

Why I love making these tahini chocolate balls:

It’s no secret that I’m a huge tahini fan and I’m constantly trying to find new ways to include it in recipes. Especially desserts as I think tahini is such a versatile ingredient to include in healthy treats. I also find it goes exceptionally well with chocolate – my other food love! So I threw them together with a few other basic ingredients to create this super easy, speedy and no-bake snack.

These tahini chocolate balls are the kind of thing I like to snack on between breakfast and lunch to keep me from wanting to reach for the pack of biscuits. It also works well at satisfying my sweet chocolate cravings that I tend to experience after meals. They make a great on-the-go snack to keep my blood sugar levels balanced or a light post-workout snack.

Life gets busy, and sometimes you just need a quick snack to keep you going. These tahini chocolate balls can be made in advance and stored for when you need a quick burst of energy. They’re portable, easy to store, and require no reheating or extra prep – perfect for those who are always on the move.

Tahini Chocolate Balls

Why you need to try these tahini chocolate balls:

Minimal ingredients – You only need 5 ingredients that you probably already have in your cupboard. The main 2 ingredients being tahini and cocoa powder – both nutrient power houses and great for overall health.

Easy to make – No one has time for complicated time consuming snacks. You don’t even need a food processor to make these tahini chocolate balls. All you need is a bowl and a spoon! Mix everything together, shape and enjoy – that’s all there is to it.

Customisable – One of the best things about these balls is their versatility. You can add in different ingredients based on your taste and dietary needs – think spices, dried fruit, or even protein powder for extra muscle support. They happen to be vegan/dairy-free and can easily be made gluten-free too. They’re also nut-free, unlike most energy balls that contain some sort of nuts or nut butter.

Perfect for pre or post-workout – Need a pre-workout snack that’s not too heavy but offers enough fuel? These tahini chocolate balls are a great option. The combination of healthy fats from tahini, complex carbs from the oats and healthy fats from the tahini offer the perfect balance of energy-boosting nutrients.

What you’ll need to make these tahini chocolate balls:

Tahini: Made from ground sesame seeds, tahini is rich in healthy fats, particularly omega-6 fatty acids, and offers a good amount of protein and calcium. It also provides a nutty, slightly savoury flavour that balances the sweetness of the chocolate perfectly. Runny Lebanese tahini is always my go to for the best taste and texture.

Cocoa: Cocoa powder adds not only rich flavour but also antioxidants, which can boost heart health and improve mood.

Oats – Oats provide complex carbohydrates, which release energy slowly. They’re high in soluble fibre, particularly beta-glucan, which helps promote healthy digestion and can stabilise blood sugar levels. The perfect addition to snacks to help keep you fuelled between meals or before/after a workout.

Maple syrup – we need some sort of sweetener to cut through the bitterness of the tahini and chocolate. I use maple syrup because I always have some in my cupboard, but other sweeteners will also work like honey, agave, rice syrup, etc.

Sesame seeds – I like to toast my sesame seeds for a couple of minutes in a dry pan (no need for oil!) to help bring out the nutty flavour. Trust me, it makes such a big difference to the taste of these tahini chocolate balls.

How to make these tahini chocolate balls:

  • Optional step – Toast the sesame seeds in a dry pan over a medium heat for a couple of minutes stirring continuously. This will help bring out the natural nuttiness of the seeds. Leave to cool.
  • Add the tahini and maple syrup to a bowl and mix to combine.
  • Add the oat flour, cocoa and a pinch of salt. Mix until you have a dough consistency. Shape into 10-12 balls.
  • Coat in the sesame seeds and enjoy!

How to store your tahini chocolate balls:

Store your tahini chocolate balls in an air-tight container either at room temperature (for softer balls) or in the fridge for up to 4 days.
