Yogurt is a versatile, nutritious, and delicious that you can use in so many fun and creative ways. It’s perfect for breakfast, a quick snack, or even a dessert. But what if we took it up a notch and added a rich, chocolatey twist? Enter homemade chocolate yogurt – a creamy, indulgent treat that’s surprisingly easy to make and perfect for satisfying your sweet tooth the healthy way.
Why I love making this chocolate yogurt pudding:
Chocolate yogurt is not something I’ve come across often, but I have seen a rise in high protein chocolate puddings, which gave me the idea of making a homemade version, but healthier by using Greek yogurt as the base.
This recipe only calls for 5 basic ingredients that your probably already have in your fridge and cupboards – yogurt, peanut butter, cocoa, maple syrup and dark chocolate. That’s it! The result is a healthy pudding like dessert that tastes amazing, but is also packed with gut friendly probiotics, healthy fats and antioxidants.
Another great thing about this chocolate yogurt pudding is that each serving offers 11g protein – not bad for a tasty chocolate pudding!
As well as being healthy with only a few ingredients, this chocolate yogurt pudding is also ready in no time! You simply mix the ingredients together, top it with melted chocolate and serve it immediately. You can also make it in advance and store it in the fridge for a quick grab and go snack/dessert.
Why you need to try this chocolate yogurt pudding:
Control Over Ingredients: Unlike most treats that you pick up from the supermarket, even the healthy versions, there’s often many questionable ingredients like flavourings, emulsifiers and stabilisers. By making your own easy desserts at home like this chocolate yogurt pudding, you have complete control over what goes into it.
Customisable: You can adjust things like the sweetness to your preference, making it as rich or as light as you like. You can also change around the ingredients depending on likes/dietary needs. If you’re allergic to nuts, use a seed butter instead. Don’t want to use dairy, substitute the yogurt with a dairy-free alternative.
Probiotic-Rich: Yogurt contains beneficial probiotics that support gut health, making this chocolate yogurt pudding a great snack to enjoy in between meals or a lighter dessert. A really easy and fun way to feed your microbiome!
Cost-Effective: Making flavoured yogurt at home can be more cost affective than buying pre-made versions, especially if you make it regularly.
Fun and Rewarding: There’s a certain satisfaction in making something from scratch, and this chocolate yogurt pudding is no exception.
Serving suggestions for this chocolate yogurt pudding:
This homemade chocolate yogurt pudding is delicious as it is on its own, but you can also get creative with toppings and mix-ins. Here are a few ideas to get you started:
- Fresh berries like strawberries, raspberries, or blueberries
- Granola or toasted oats for a crunchy contrast
- Chopped nuts such as almonds, walnuts, or pecans
- A drizzle of nut butter or Biscoff spread for added richness
- Mini chocolate chips or cacao nibs for extra indulgence
What you need to make this chocolate yogurt pudding:
Yogurt – I like to use fat-free Greek yogurt since it’s lower in saturated fat and calories, but higher in protein than other yogurts. You can of course use full-fat Greek yogurt for a richer/creamier pudding. Dairy-free yogurts will also work if you want the recipe to be vegan/dairy-free.
Peanut butter – a great source of healthy fats, but it also adds extra creaminess and a nutty flavour, which I love. Other nut butters will work, or you can use a seed butter like tahini for a nut-free version.
Dark chocolate – I used a 70% dark chocolate for a rich chocolate taste, but it also helps firm up the pudding a little and makes it creamier.
Cocoa powder – I didn’t want to add too much dark chocolate as it can easily bump up the calories and sugar content, but I still wanted a richer taste. Cocoa powder is a great way to add lots of chocolatey goodness without affecting the sugar, fat and calorie content much.
Maple syrup – I decided to add a little to make the pudding sweeter, but of course it’s up to you how much you would like to add if any at all.
Topping – I also added a thin layer of dark chocolate on top to make it look more delectable and add to the rich taste.

Hi. I wouldn’t call this dessert ‘healthy’, there’s a fair bit of fat and sugar content. If you want a healthy dessert, have fruit or plain yoghurt.
Some (myself included) aren’t satisfied with fruit and plain yogurt when they’re craving a sweet treat. This is an alternative for those looking for a healthier treat. The main ingredients are yoghurt, dark chocolate, cocoa and peanut butter – all considered healthy foods. I understand if it’s not for you 🙂
Atleast it’s low in calories! 😁
But yeah occasionally it shouldn’t do no harm. It’s not like an everyday thing and it’s ultra processed free too.
