5-Ingredient Chocolate Orange Pudding

Chocolate and orange is one of my favourite Christmas dessert flavour combinations ever! I’m not much of a mince pie or Christmas pudding fan, so when I think of festive treats, chocolate orange is what comes to my mind. I think what makes it Christmasy is its connections to Terry’s chocolate orange – a common stocking filler here in the UK. Having said that, I would happily eat chocolate orange desserts anytime of the year, especially ones that are as simple and easy to make as this 5-ingredient chocolate orange pudding recipe.

There’s something special about the combination of chocolate and orange. The bittersweet richness of cocoa paired with the bright, citrusy tang of orange creates a harmony of flavours that is both comforting and refreshing. If you’re a fan of this classic pairing, then this 5-ingredient chocolate orange pudding is about to become your new favourite dessert!

Why I love making this 5-ingredient chocolate orange pudding:

I’ve made a few chocolate orange recipes from these orange chocolate truffles to this chocolate orange marble cake, but none of them are as simple and quick to make as this 5-ingredient chocolate orange pudding.

Few ingredient no-bake desserts like this one are my favourite to make. It takes no time at all to put together and very little faff. You simply mix the base ingredients together, then heat the pudding ingredients in a saucepan and pour over the base. Chill, and you’re left with a super decadent and indulgent dessert that’s as easy to make as it is satisfying on the taste buds.

As well as being easy to make, this 5-ingredient chocolate orange pudding recipe is allergy friendly. I used coconut milk and dairy-free chocolate to make the pudding as well as gluten-free digestive biscuits. Making this recipe vegan, dairy-free and gluten-free. It also happens to be nut-free too. A great one to add to your recipe book for when you need to make a treat for a loved one or a friends with allergies/intolerances.

5-Ingredient Chocolate Orange Pudding

What you’ll need to make this 5-ingredient chocolate orange pudding:

Coconut milk – This will give the puddings a rich and indulgent base for the chocolate to set in, creating a super creamy pudding like texture. I haven’t tried using light coconut milk, but it should work. However, the pudding will be a lot lighter and not as firm.

Dark chocolate – You can use any that you like the taste of. I usually use a chocolate bar with at least 70% cocoa solids. The darker the chocolate you use the richer the pudding will be. Just bear in mind that it will also be less sweet/more bitter, so you may want to add additional sweetener like sugar or maple syrup. I would recommend tasting the chocolate mixture before pouring into the serving dishes, then add sweetener to taste if needed.

Orange juice & zest – The juice and zest of 1 orange is what will give your puddings that citrusy flavour burst. You can alternatively use an orange flavoured dark chocolate bar, just make sure to add an extra 4 tbsp of coconut milk to replace the orange juice that you’re omitting. If you’re not a fan of chocolate orange, omit the orange part completely and use a plain dark chocolate bar!

Digestive biscuits – I opted for gluten-free digestive biscuits to make the recipe gluten-free, but regular digestive biscuits will also work.

Butter – We just need a little to help the biscuit crumb mixture hold together as the bases chill in the fridge.

How to make this 5-ingredient chocolate orange pudding:

  • Add the digestives biscuits to a food processor and pulse until you have a fine crumb mixture. Add the melted butter and pulse again until combined.
  • Divide the base mixture between 6 small dessert glasses/pots and refrigerate while you make the chocolate orange layer.
  • Break up the chocolate into small pieces and add to a saucepan along with the coconut milk and orange juice.
  • Cook over a medium heat until the chocolate is completely melted and you have a smooth mixture.
  • Add the orange zest and sweetener (if using any). Give it a final mix, then pour on top of the chilled biscuit bases.
  • Leave to cool slightly before transferring to the fridge to set. Allow to chill in the fridge for 2-3 hours, or until set.
