Cheese is such a staple in the typical British diet. We use it heavily in dishes but more and more people are choosing to cut it out from their diet for a variety of reasons. Whenever I’ve asked a vegan what they missed most about the way they used to eat, the most common answer I get is “cheese!”.
Traditional Shepard’s pie can often be on the fatty, starchy side what with all the meat, thick layer of potato mash mixed with generous amounts of butter and cheese. This healthy vegetarian Shepherd’s pie is much lighter and full of vegetables and pulses packed with nutrients and mineral, and the best thing about it is that it tastes just as delicious and satisfying as the traditional!
heesy crackers…and vegan? How could that possibly be? Well the combination of the ingredients for these crackers give it a lovely cheesy flavour. That accompanied with a few aromatic herbs and spices make these crackers perfect to eat with hummus, spreads or just simply by themselves!
If you have never come across the words ‘nutritional yeast’ then I can imagine hearing it for the first time will be somewhat off putting. The word ‘yeast’ isn’t exactly associated with delicious food. Even I was hesitant to try it initially, but I soon changed my mind when looking it up and finding its flavour described as ‘cheesy’ and ‘nutty’.
