As an IBS sufferer I really have to be careful what I eat, particularly for breakfast. Usually if I start the day off wrong, my digestive system will play up the rest of the day no matter what I do. I would get this heavy unsettling feeling in my stomach, like a brick. It feels like the food sits there for hours and I start feeling so tired, sluggish and lethargic. Pancakes were one of those foods that I had to avoid in the morning!
This smoothie tastes so so good, kind of like a chocolate milkshake! But all the ingredients will nourish and feed your body. The healthy carbs (from the banana) and protein (from the added protein powder) make it an excellent breakfast or post-workout meal.
This banana blueberry baked oatmeal is vegan, dairy free and can easily be made gluten free. You could add some protein powder, nuts or seeds to make it a more well rounded breakfast.
I feel that parsnips are a neglected root vegetable that we only eat during Christmas time, but not in this household! I love turning parsnips into scrumptious side dishes. One of my favourite things to make with parsnip (if you haven’t already guessed), is parsnip mash! Closely followed by baked parsnip chips
I love vegetable and bean burgers. They may not taste like meat but they can be just as satisfying without leaving you feeling heavy and sluggish from the high fat and oil content. To me, normal meat burgers are a treat – one that I would only probably have once or twice a year if even that. These vegan burgers however, I would happily eat everyday!
Love chocolate but feel guilty every time you have a piece or two? Then make your own homemade healthy version. Too difficult? It’s actually super duper easy! You can make these beautiful 3 layered cacao coconut blueberry chocolates using only 5 main ingredients!! You don’t need any fancy equipment, just your ingredients and a pan.
Here’s my healthier version of the traditional Hot Cross Bun using spelt flour instead of plain or wholemeal flour. The texture is somewhat different but that’s to be expected since I’m not using the typical ingredients that make a hot cross bun light and fluffy, but I like denser breads and cakes anyway so I’m absolutely thrilled with the results!
You probably all know by now that I’m a massive fan of overnight oats (also known as Bircher Muesli) because of how convenient and easy it is to make. Also because it tastes amazing…if you use the right flavour combination!
Quest Bar Apple Pop Tart Recipe After making my Quest Bar Berry Tart last week, a few of you asked me to make another recipe using a quest bar. I had a few recipe ideas in mind but then remembered a recipe I had seen on the Quest nutrition YouTube channel of a ‘healthified’ pop tart and loved the idea, …
I tried my first quest bar a year ago instantly fell in love with them! They were all over social media and I was so eager to try them, but they were no where to be found here in the UK! Fast forward a year later and now you can find them in places like Holland and Barrett, Amazon and ebay!
